description: These polygons represent the groundwater allocation management zones in the Western Bay of Plenty. They are mapped to typically follow surface water catchments. Primary surface water catchments have been divided into three groundwater management zones for the Western Bay where a confined groundwater system occurs; therefore no hydraulic connection to surface waters. A mass water balance has been calculated for each groundwater zone. The remaining groundwater volume was then allocated based on Proposed National Environmental Standard on Ecological Flows and Water Levels (2008); no more than 35% of average annual recharge to the aquifer be allocated. The mass water balance for each groundwater zone has been calculated by GNS and reported in GNS Science Consultancy Report 2008/240 held in BOPRC library. This layer provides information with regard to groundwater availability and allocation based on water balance work undertaken by Paul White from GNS Science, 35% of NES and groundwater allocated under water permit (RMA). Note:If changes need to be made to this data it's important that changes are made to only two fields – that rest are all calculated and any changes there will get overwritten at night.GroundwaterFlow_M3perY – this is the annual recharge figure – all the water that goes into the groundwater zone (minus a few things)Notice that this in m3/year. If the figure given is in litres per second you will need to covert this.(l/s * 86.4) * 365AvailableAllocation_Percent - the percentage of the above that is available to be allocated (via water take consents)If you get this in l/s please convert to m3/y and then work out what it is as a percentage of the abovePS. Please read the Fields descriptions for better understanding of how this layer was created. If you can not see the fields descriptions for this layer, you need to change the Metadata Options to FGDC CSDGM Metadata. Contact a GIS team memeber if you don't know how to do this.PPS.
